SRC / VHF RADIO EXAM

LSS provides SRC Radio License assessments for those who have completed their online VHF course and sent their certification fee to the RYA. We are taking assessments on an “on-demand” basis and they will take place a short walk from Earlsfield station in London (reachable by overground train).

THE ASSESSMENT

The assessment consists of a short written paper (30 minutes) followed by practical session on the radio, some verbal role play and a discussion about uses of the Radio in realistic scenarios.

An assessment costs £30 for an SRC/VHF student of LSS or £50 for an external student.

PREPARATION

THINGS TO BRING

  • Passport Photo

  • Pen to complete the assessment

  • Your exam application form - you will have been required to complete one at the end of the VHF / Radio classroom or online course.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • There is no time limit between taking the course and the assessment however you would be advised to take the assessment pretty soon after you complete the course.

  • There is no age limit to take the VHF course however you must be aged 16 and over to take the assessment.

  • It can take up to 6 weeks to receive your VHF (SRC) Radio Licence. If you pay an additional fee the RYA will turn it around for you in 48 hours. However please note that you will get a temporary proof of passing certificate upon successful passing on the exam

  • If you have particular timing requirements please get in touch to discuss but it tends to take a few hours depending on numbers attending

  • We do take exams who haven’t taken the online course with the London School of Sailing.
