JOG (Junior Offshore Group) Lonely Tower Race is the first race of the season on Cougar.

The Great Escape race is on the Sunday, there is the option just to do one of the days, please contact us for this.

Event Details:

Date: Saturday 21st, and Sunday 22nd March

Boat: Cougar, our highly capable and competitive racing yacht

Crew Assembly Point: Port Hamble Marina

This exciting race weekend marks the first events of the season and serves as an ideal test sail to familiarize yourself with Cougar and hone your teamwork on the water. Whether you’re returning to racing after a break or gearing up for an action-packed season, the Lonely Tower Race and/ or the Great Escape Race offers the perfect mix of competition and preparation.

Schedule:

Morning: Crew will assemble at Port Hamble Marina for a pre-race briefing and boat familiarization.

Midday: We’ll sail across to Cowes to join the starting fleet.

Race Start: From Cowes, we’ll navigate the course to the Nab Tower, testing skills, strategy, and teamwork.

Sunday: Great Escape race, returning to Hamble on Sunday evening.

  • Previous experience required:

    • Previous offshore sailing experience required unless this is your first offshore race in the Fastnet Campaign

    • Experience of spinnakers/gennakers is handy

    • The race time depends on the weather forecast heavily but in our experience, with the early morning start, usually just over 24 hours to the Eddystone lighthouse if the wind is a usual Westerly, and faster on the way back downwind.
