The RORC Easter Challenge is a unique RORC inshore regatta that offers crews the chance for some vital pre-season training and fine-tuning. The main highlight of the event (due to the relaxation of RRS41) is the availability of experienced coaches on the water to assist teams with getting up to speed.

This will be our third year at this event, it’s always a cracking opportunity to upskill and we couldn’t miss it this year!

THE EVENT

The on-the-water coaching and afternoon racing debriefs will be provided by household racing names and supplemented by the North U Regatta Services, who can not only help with sail trim but also offer advice on how to start and get into clear air. A selection of courses and wind angles presents a perfect opportunity to improve your racing. Combined with the popular debriefs after each day’s racing at the RORC Cowes Clubhouse and the unique prizes of Easter eggs, the RORC Easter Challenge is the perfect way to tune up for the upcoming season.

THE PLAN

  • 📍Start: Port Hamble Marina

  • JOIN THE BOAT: Hamble | Thursday 02nd PM or Friday 03rd AM

  • OFF THE DOCK: Friday 03rd AM

  • RACING: Friday > Sunday

  • BERTHING: Cowes Friday & Saturday Night

  • BACK ON THE DOCK: Hamble | Sunday 05th PM

GOOD TO KNOW

  • A WhatsApp group will be set up to help coordinate lifts/train collections/drop-offs

  • Remember to bring bedding if sleeping onboard!

This event will be operated by LSS Ocean Racing, our partner company, specialists in offshore sailing events.

  • Previous experience required:

    • Previous offshore sailing experience required unless this is your first offshore race in the Fastnet Campaign

    • Experience of spinnakers/gennakers is handy

    • The race time depends on the weather forecast heavily but in our experience, with the early morning start, usually just over 24 hours to the Eddystone lighthouse if the wind is a usual Westerly, and faster on the way back downwind.
