The Dartmouth Regatta is a historic annual event that takes place in the town of Dartmouth, Devon, UK. It is one of the oldest regattas in the country, with a history dating back to 1822. The regatta is held every year over three days in August and attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world.
The event includes a range of water-based activities, including sailing races, rowing races, and water polo competitions. There are also land-based events, such as a funfair, live music performances, and a fireworks display. The regatta culminates in a grand procession of boats on the River Dart, which is a sight to behold.
The sailing races are a particular highlight of the Dartmouth Regatta. There are races for all classes of boats, from small dinghies to large yachts, and the competition is fierce. The regatta is a major event in the sailing calendar, and many sailors from all over the UK and beyond come to compete.
The rowing races are also a popular part of the regatta. There are races for both men and women, and teams come from all over the UK to compete. The races take place on the River Dart, which provides a challenging course for the rowers.
In addition to the water-based activities, the Dartmouth Regatta also includes a range of land-based events. These include a funfair, live music performances, and a food and drink festival. The funfair is a popular attraction for families, with rides and games for all ages. The music performances feature a range of acts, from local bands to nationally known artists. The food and drink festival showcases the best of local produce, with stalls selling everything from traditional Devon cream teas to locally brewed ale.
Overall, the Dartmouth Regatta is a fantastic event that celebrates the town's rich maritime history. Whether you are a sailor, a rower, or simply someone who loves a good party, there is something for everyone at the regatta.

The Dartmouth Regatta is open to anyone with some experience in sailing and would put themselves at a competent crew or above. Ideally, you’ll have past racing experience but not essential. At LSS we believe the attitude to contribute and learn is the most important.
-
The event starts in Hamble on the morning of Tuesday 22 August and until Tuesday 29 August (please count on afternoon arrival)
-
You will be racing on one of LSS’s regular boats, most likely Kindred Spirit, a race-prepped Sigma 38, but others are possible too.
The boats are:
Kindred Spirit - Sigma 38
Kotari - Jeanneau 49
Playing Around - First 40.7
Red Hawk - First 36.7
-
The boats are based on the River Hamble.
Kindred Spirit is at Deacons Boatyard, in Bursledon.
-
The Solent, which the River Hamble is on the Northern edge of, is the perfect training area between Southampton Water and the Isle of Wight.
Notorious for consistent winds, wicked tides, and a gorgeous variety of harbours, rivers and anchorages to visit.
An average week will see you visit any of the below:
Cowes
Yarmouth
Beaulieu river
Lymington
The Needles & Alum Bay
Newtown Creek
Portsmouth
Wooton Creek
Osbourn Bay
Langstone Harbour
Chichester Harbour
and many other little anchorages.
-
During the event, accommodation on the boat is provided. However, LSS do provide an onshore accomodation option for £300 per person, which will be in the centre of town. Please indicate it in your booking form if you are keen on this option.
-
If you’ve enjoyed it and want to continue to build your racing skills, we’d recommend that you keep an eye on the LSS website. Maybe you’d like to try something more offshore like a cross channel race weekend?
-
We will be in marinas and harbours every day most likely so you won’t need to shower on the boat. The boats are fitted with a functional toilet, sink, showers and kitchen (galley) for cooking.

Excellent cruising and racing

The cruising is relaxed and very enjoyable. I have been to Croatia and Sicily, on very comfortable yachts and had a wonderful time. The racing…
